With Mother’s Day creeping right up on us (it’s this weekend people if you’ve been slacking 😉 !!) I’ve been doing some reflecting on how lucky I am to have strong women in my life. I’m lucky enough to have my mom and both grandmothers still living, and grew up knowing both great grandmothers well into my teenage and early 20’s part of life. As a tribute to these women in my life, I wanted to share a post about 5 Life Lessons I’ve Learned From My Mom and Grandmothers. I truly love hearing about what others have learned from the special people in their lives. Have a great life lesson or even just a funny story? Please share in the comments so we can all read! Also, I’m sharing a new-to-me favorite wine- JaM Cellars Butter Chardonnay because what’s a little gal time without wine?!
5 LIFE LESSONS I’VE LEARNED FROM MY MOM AND GRANDMOTHERS
1. A GLASS OF WINE IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY
One of my favorite things in life is when my grandmothers come over to my parents’ house or we spend time with family at their place, and my cousins, mom, aunts, grandmothers (okay lots of ladies, but you get the idea) open a bottle of wine, share some laughs, and relax. My mom prefers white wine and I love both white wine and red wine. You really can’t go wrong in my eyes. During spring and summer, you can find me drinking more white wine and rosé, but I truly love all and don’t really discriminate when it comes to a quality bottle of wine 😉 .
Since my parents are going to be on vacation through Mother’s Day, I won’t be able to spend the day with my mom on the actual day. When I went home to visit this past weekend, my mom and I tried a new-to-us wine, JaM Cellars Butter Chardonnay. JaM Cellars’ Butter Chardonnay is a rich, creamy, and buttery chardonnay. It has a unique blend of oak and a great finish. My mom and I both loved it, so next time you’re at the grocery store of liquor store, make sure to look for it!
But back to the lesson! I’d be lying if I said I don’t look forward to that moment when I come home after a long day, pour a glass of wine and truly unwind. Plus, when my mom, grandmothers, and I open up a bottle of wine there always seems to be plenty of laughs too!
2. ONLY BORING PEOPLE GET BORED
This little life lesson is courtesy of my grandmother and I definitely remember rolling my eyes at this one a bit as a kid, but how true is it?! Life is way too great and there’s too many things to do to possibly ever get bored. You’re not boring right?! So stop complaining about being bored 🙂 .
3. BEING YOU IS YOUR SUPERPOWER
There will always be someone more beautiful, someone more smart, someone who seems more accomplished, someone who seems more funny, or someone who seems to be more charismatic, but no one will ever be YOU and that is your superpower and what makes you special. I 100% believe this and tell myself when life sometimes feels tough or I catch myself comparing myself to others.
4. KEEP WORKING HARD, WHETHER ANYONE NOTICES OR NOT
Sometimes in your life there are times where you think you are working so hard and doing so great that you wish someone would notice… You wish they would give you the recognition or attention you feel you “deserve.” But guess what? People don’t really owe us recognition, attention, or any of those things. Usually it’s our own ego coming into play. Whether someone is watching you or not, keep doing you, working hard, and eventually things pay off! But also don’t be afraid to speak up if it’s necessary!
5. PICK YOUR BATTLES
You ever catch yourself getting caught up in things and getting stressed over things that really aren’t that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things? Pick your battles!! It will be one of the best choices you ever make. Some things just aren’t worth getting stressed over!
In need of a hostess gift, a Mother’s Day gift, or in need of a little “oomph” for your next girls’ night? Aw thank you so much Ali for reading and for your kind words! That phrase always stuck with me through childhood and adulthood! xoxo
