Last weekend Geoff and I went to my hometown of Owls Head, Maine and hung out in Rockland, Camden (you can read my travel guide to Camden here), and the rest of the Midcoast. It’s sometimes hard telling people where I’m from because the towns are all so tiny and close together that you feel like each one of them is your hometown. For instance, my hometown of Owls Head is so tiny that there’s not even a traffic light (or much of anything… although there is an airport). I went to middle school and high school in Rockland. Since the area is so small, a bunch of the local towns all go to school together.
Last summer I was devastated (yes I cried lol) that I didn’t get to go to Maine even once because of a crazy work schedule. I was working 70 hours a week waitressing and was pretty miserable. Even Geoff got to go to my hometown last summer and his parents got to meet my parents. It was all very exciting, except for the fact that I didn’t even get to go. I felt absolutely horrible but I couldn’t get a single person to cover my shift. This summer I’ve been a few times and it’s been the best getting to visit all my favorite places, seeing my friends, and of course, spending time with family. Definitely something I never take for granted.
Anyways, you may have noticed that I’ve been working on the blog a lot more this summer, and that’s because I haven’t been working… aside from the blog (gasp)! I told myself that I wasn’t going to let waitressing take over my life this summer. Since working part time at the same restaurant I had worked at last summer wasn’t an option, I’ve been working on the blog constantly. Those of you who have worked in the restaurant industry know how mentally and physically draining it is. While I love having this free time, I’m also broke (lol wish I was exaggerating). I also quit my job as a teacher which is insanely nerve racking. You’re probably saying, dang girl, are you having a quarter life crisis?! Kinda feels like it, but I promise I’m not! Not to fear, I’m currently job hunting! Lately, I’ve been questioning if I’m making any of the right decisions, but I’m going with my gut this time and praying for the best. More about that decision in another post, but since creating this blog I feel like my passions have led me to another place that is no longer education. I started to feel like I was going through the motions and was just WAY too comfortable. Hey, you never grow from being comfortable right?! If you guys have ever been in a situation where you’ve felt too comfortable and like you aren’t really feeling passionate anymore, then you get it. I always try to keep it super real on here 😉 .
