Looking for a bronzed glow that’s good for your skin, is organic, without a hint of orange in sight? Blush Tan has you covered.
As silly as it might seem, there’s something about a great tan that makes you feel like a new person.Your eyes look brighter, everything looks more toned, and your overall confidence goes up. However, as you probably know, not all spray tans are created equal. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Many leave you orange, sticky, with patchy color, or smelling terrible.
Organic Spray Tanning at Blush Tan
Blush Tan recently reached out to me to try out their organic spray tan at one of their Massachusetts locations (I went to their flagship location in Wellesley, MA but there’s also a location in Westborough, to name their Massachusetts locations; There’s also locations in other states). Since the last spray tan I got for New Years Eve turned out a little bit orange (from a spray tanning booth back in my hometown), I was excited to try something new, and the fact that it’s organic made me really excited.
While it’s true that spray tanning is better for you than going to a tanning bed or a booth, I think something that’s still a bit unknown, is the safety of spray tans. Any product you put on your skin is absorbed by your skin and many chemicals in beauty and skin products are thought to be able to reach the blood stream. Whenever you can, it’s always best to choose organic products.
I’ve long quit tanning beds and booths, but if you’re someone who hasn’t, I desperately urge you to consider stopping and substituting with spray tans. Seeing my mom go through chemotherapy for breast cancer when I was in college made me completely give up “fake baking.” She then had spots of skin cancer removed, and guess what, they can often scar! I pray you never have to witness a family member or friend go through the pain and struggle that is chemotherapy or radiation for cancer treatment.
It is absolutely proven that tanning, specifically in tanning beds and booths, causes cancer. Imagine being too tired to do your favorite activities, losing all of your hair, having an IV in your arm to receive chemotherapy, and then… even when you’re done with chemotherapy and have beat cancer, never really feeling like your true, old, healthy self again. Plus, if that doesn’t convince you, do you really want to spend your entire 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, etc. spending crazy amounts of money on anti-aging products? I promise you, they ain’t cheap. So please, I’m begging you, stop fake baking. It’s better to be pale than dead, but luckily you don’t have to be either since organic spray tans exist 😊.
Prepping For Your Spray Tan
Plan on shaving the day before a spray tan so that your body is fully exfoliated, and so that the tan will last as long as possible (and not flake off). I also like to use a scrub or a loofah the day before to fully exfoliate everywhere. The day of your spray tan, shower and exfoliate, but do not shave. I’ve had experiences with other spray tans where I’ve accidentally forgotten and shaved the day of my tan, and I’ve had a bit of an itchy reaction (but I have sensitive skin).
Do not use any oil based products on the skin the day of your spray tan or have makeup on. However, if you show up wearing makeup (I had just come from work when I got mine), bring a makeup wipe and just wipe your face clean prior to getting the spray tan. I like wearing looser clothing to a spray tan such as joggers or a loose t-shirt (don’t put your bra back on after if you can help it). You don’t want tight clothing because if any sweating occurs, your tan will be uneven.
The Formula at Blush Tan
Blush Tan’s products contain no oils or alcohol, meaning they won’t dry out the skin, cause breakouts, or clog pores. Their products are paraben-free, chemical-free, fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and are approved by dermatologists nationwide. The solution contains all natural, anti-aging ingredients that help to moisturize the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite, fine lines, and wrinkles. Tans turn out bronzed, flawless, and glowing every single time. You won’t see the “fake” “orange-y” look that we all loathe.
Blush Tan’s product line also boasts over 100 different colors, meaning that the perfect color can be mixed, and it’s a completely customized experience for each individual. You won’t see a “light”, “medium,” or “dark,” choice here. It’s far more customized, which makes for amazing results, that I’m obsessed with!

Services at Blush Tan
Step One:
First, choose whether you’d like full body (face and entire body), partial body (upper body and face or legs), or face (face and neck).
Step Two:
Choose your sunless solution.
- Original– The typical “sleep-on-it” option. This option is best for those who have an evening tan appointment. You can go home, go to bed (don’t shower for 10-12 hours). The tan will fully develop in 24 hours.
- Express– With this solution, you’re able to shower after 4-6 hours. This is perfect for those who can’t wait 10-12 hours to shower, or don’t like the feeling of going to bed with a spray tan (or getting a little on your sheets). You rinse off in 4 hours for a light glow, 5 hours for a medium tan, or 6 hours if you’d like a deeper tan.
- Super Express– This tan sets in 2-4 hours. This solution is perfect for a girl on the go, who doesn’t like to have a spray tan get in the way of your daily routine. For a light glow, shower 2 hours after the application, 3 hours for a medium tan, or shower at 4 hours for a dark tan.
- Blushtan Bronze (New)– Perfect for those with darker skin tones, and/or those who desire a deeper, darker tan. This sets in 10-12 hours, and the tan fully develops after 24 hours.
- Blushtan Original- Contains caffeine and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients act as anti-aging ingredients and not only help to moisturize the skin, but also minimize the appearance of cellulite, fine lines, and wrinkles. This also reduces inflammation and redness caused by acne, sunburn, eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin. A custom color is mixed based on your skin tone and desired tan, and fully sets in 10-12 hours (don’t shower for 10-12 hours). The tan fully develops in 24 hours. (This was the formula I chose; full body).
- Blushtan Super Express– Exactly the same as the Blushtan Original, except the tan sets in 2-4 hours (don’t shower for 2-4 hours), and fully develops in 24 hours.
What Do You Wear?
Here’s where I was a little bit nervous! You can wear as little or as much as you feel comfortable wearing. I’ve only ever had a spray tan done by a booth (AKA it’s a machine, not a person spraying in on you) so I was a little bit nervous to strip down in front of a stranger. Blush Tan has disposable, teeny, tiny thongs you can wear to minimize your lines, you can wear a bathing suit, undergarments, or you can go completely in the nude.
I debated over and over again about whether I should wear a bikini top or little stick on cups, but I ended up saying “screw it.” Truthfully, I didn’t want the lines, but I wasn’t sure if it was okay to go topless (you can go completely nude, btw and no one will judge you)! Michelle, the general manager who did my tan, made me feel so comfortable and was so incredibly professional. I loved her personality and how she was able to laugh and joke the entire time (while keeping it completely professional) and making me feel so comfortable. The entire process takes about 10-15 minutes.
How Long Will My Tan Last?
Most tans will last 7-10 days, depending on proper hydration of the skin before and after the tan, as well as exfoliation before the tan is applied. Using a water based moisturizer after your treatment will ensure that your tan lasts to its full capacity.
The Verdict
So, you’re wondering…. is it worth it? Okay, a million times yes! This was the only spray tan I’ve ever had in my entire life that has given me a truly bronzed, brown tan (think just back from a vacation glow), rather than orange. Orange tans look obvious and tacky, two things I don’t want my tan being. It smelled less than any other spray tan I’ve ever had (you know the smell), and when the tan starts to fade, it fades evenly, rather than blotchy.
The location I went to was incredibly clean, cute (bright whites and blush tones throughout the entire shop), and staff were friendly, courteous, and nice! I can’t tell you how many tanning places I’ve been to where the staff acts like they’re too good to help you and that they don’t want to be there. Luckily, Blush Tan is NONE of that, and is very unpretentious. The fact that it can be completely customized to my liking, combined with the fact that it’s good for your skin will keep me coming back. Basically, you need to book an appointment, and run there ASAP. Plus, Christina Kauffman, the founder of Blush Tan, is a New England native boss lady. To my fellow New England babes, how can you not support that?! 🙂

Hi, I love your blog! Which one do you personally think would work best for sensitiv light skin? Thank you so much ❤️ You
Aw thanks Maddy!! Since the formula is fragrance free and hypoallergenic, it’s perfect for people who have sensitive skin. I have really sensitive skin too! I also have pretty fair skin. You can tell the person who’s working and mixing your color how much color you want. If you want a light tan, they can adjust it accordingly. The tan you pick is based on whether you are going to shower or not, and whether or not you want the hyaluronic acid formula or not (I recommend it.) Hope that helps!! Feel free to email me if you have any more questions!! (contact@brunchonsunday.com) <3 <3
Thank you so much that helped a lot
First off, I love your earrings and that sweater! Secondly, I’ve always been so afraid of spray tans but I feel you on how a tan just makes you feel like a whole new person!! Might need to take your word for it and give it a try! Great post, lady!

Aw, Tess, you are always so sweet. Thank you so much!! You have to do it!!! It instantly makes me feel sexier haha!! xoxo
Yes girl! I am also a recovering tanning bed enthusiast. My grandmother is currently undergoing radiation therapy for melanoma. Being bronzed is totally gorgeous and totally NOT worth it. I also lived in Florida for the past 13 years and never used sunscreen in my life until now. Watching a loved one go through it will totally leave you seeking options like a good self tanner.
Where are you located? How much is a spray tan with you?
