HOW TO FAKE HEALTHIER LOOKING HAIR
Think of the point that you need a haircut, take it at least two months past that point, and that’s always me. I like to blame it on the fact that I’m very indecisive about picking a hair salon, but the truth is, I just tend to put things off. Hair cuts are no exception. This is all fine and dandy until you get to the point where you have to attend a wedding or an event, and the panic starts to set in. Let’s be honest – ratty, scraggly looking hair just isn’t cute, and it definitely ages us. Since I’ve done a good amount of scrambling to make my hair look half decent before events, I’ve put together some tips for you guys. Something to note about these tips are that they’re for when you are absolutely desperate. Hair cuts are always best for when you have split ends that are taking over your entire head. However, if you’re like me, you schedule a hair cut, hope they will have room for you the next day, but then it ends up being 2-3 weeks away. This leaves you with 2-3 weeks of having a rough looking mane. Luckily there are solutions! Continue reading for my tips!
1. Curl Your Hair
Whatever you do, do not flat iron your hair! Wearing your hair stick straight tends to show every single split end that’s on your entire head and magnifies it. Curling your hair blends the hair and takes the focus off the ends of your hair. Obviously using heat, especially something like a curling iron does further damage to your already damaged hair, but when you’re desperate and need your hair to look good for an event, party, wedding, etc. curling your hair is 1,000 times better than taking the flat iron to it!
2. Add Hair Serum to Ends
At this point, almost all of us use hair product on our wet hair before styling, but have you ever used hair serum on dry hair? For those of you who have been reading my blog for a little while, you know I have a serious love affair with Jen Atkin’s Ouai products. This Ouai hair oil is one of the best out right now, but I actually prefer using it on my hair when it’s dry! After curling my hair, I use half of a pump in my palm and work it into the ends of my hair. I can’t even explain what it does to the ends of your hair, other than it sort of seals the cuticle and split ends and completely smooths your hair. It’s truly like magic, and instantly gives the effect of smooth, shiny locks.
3. Get Some Lift
When my hair is in desperate need of a haircut, I always feel that it also falls completely flat. Using mousse on your roots is a great way to get a little bit of lift (and no mousse isn’t just for the 90’s anymore)! You can then dry your hair and use velcro rollers to get more body.
4. Wear an Updo
If curling your hair and wearing it down isn’t even a help to you, I would suggest wearing your hair in an updo. Hiding the ends of your hair where the split ends are is key. If an updo seems out of your comfort zone, just remember that an updo doesn’t have to be as extreme as prom hair or wedding hair. You can simply put your hair in a low messy bun, pull out pieces, add a little curl to them, pin pieces, and be on your way!
I hope these tips helped some of you! Below, I have linked some of the products referenced in this post and linked hair products that are my absolute favorite. If you have more hair questions or something you’d like covered on the blog (doesn’t have to be hair related) comment below and I’ll make sure to get to it for you π
