Thinking back on the middle school and high school years, there’s so many things I wish I had discovered… But mainly a tan (safe cream versions of course), better style (clothes that didn’t include wearing the same Roxy and Billabong sweatshirts every single day), and also a hair straightener. Back in those days I thought I was cool for wearing my hair slicked back, still wet, in a messy bun on top of my head with tons of hair clips. Some things sure do make you cringe to think about 🙂 lol.

But back to the hair subject. Up until junior or senior year of high school, I literally could care less what my hair or makeup looked like. I don’t even think I wore much makeup. I didn’t spend much time on my hair, unless it was to get it as slicked back as possible *insert crying laughing emoji face here lol*. I wore my hair up every single day. The farthest I ever went was to dry my hair with a blow dryer, and if I ever did play around with my hair, it would be failed attempts when borrowing my mother’s curling iron.

In this time, hair straighteners seemed to be starting to gain popularity (or maybe I was living under a rock in Maine), but use wasn’t widespread. I still remember it like it was yesterday when a girl on my gymnastics team talked in the locker room about putting her hair down on an ironing board and having another friend straighten her hair with an iron…. The struggle was real ya’ll LOL. Today’s middle school girls just don’t know how good they have it 😉 haha. If a girl did own a hair straightener, it was usually a not so great version from WalMart. Luckily, hair straighteners and other hair tools have come such a long way since my terrible hair days in middle school and high school, and today I wanted to share a new find with you all that has made straightening my hair so much easier!

I think I’ve told you guys before how I mainly only curl my hair or put waves in it since my hair is naturally wavy. Since the end of my high school days, I’ve been a pretty big believer in embracing your natural hair or enhancing it, but not going through tooooooo much trouble to get it to behave. Straightening my hair has always been something that’s difficult for me because of how thick my hair is. Not only is my hair extremely thick, but it’s long, curlier on one side than the other, and often just an overall pain to deal with.

Recently, Irresistible Me reached out to me to try their hair straightener, and at first, I’m not going to lie, I was a little apprehensive. However, my Chi hair straightener, the only straightener I’ve ever owned since senior year of high school feels like it may be on its way out soon, so I thought why not!

Upon taking the Irresistible Me hair straightener out of the packaging, I was first blown away by how incredibly light it is! I have a ton of hair, which means that it does sometimes take me a while to do my hair, and let’s be honest… When I want to do an arm workout (which is almost never, let’s be real), I want to go to the gym, not fight my hair in my bathroom. It’s extremely sleek and has a place for your thumb to grip and rest, which means it won’t slip out of your hands. After plugging in the hair straightener, I noticed that the power button was on the inside of the hair straightener. At first I was nervous because it seems like you might have the chance of burning yourself, but I promise that the plates are far enough away from the power button that you will not burn yourself. A great thing about this hair straightener is that it has customized heat levels, meaning that you can have the heat at anywhere from 260 to 450 degrees. The booklet that comes with the straightener has recommendations on temperatures based on your hair type, however I’ve been putting it on the hottest setting (SO BAD I know, but my hair is somewhat coarse and very thick).

One of my absolute favorite, favorite, FAVORITE things about this hair straightener is that it warms up to the hottest setting in seriously 30 seconds. Since I’m often strapped for time in the morning (who isn’t?) this feature makes things so much easier.

If you’re someone who travels out of the country a lot, this straightener will change your life. It’s considered the next-generation smart iron. The Irresistible Me flat iron is equipped with a microprocessor which automatically adjusts to the supplied voltage, making it perfect for travel. It also automatically changes the temperature display mode into Celsius or Fahrenheit depending on the supplied voltage. No more blowing fuses! I’m just mad I didn’t think of this myself!

I know this may seem like a huge temperature drop, but compared to so many other straighteners on the market, I promise it isn’t. Because of the technology that this straightener is equipped with, there’s almost no down time needed between each section of hair. The temperature stays virtually the same throughout the entire styling process.

Something that you should always focus on when purchasing a new flat iron is the type of plates that are used. Ceramic has until recently been the go to for many higher end hair straighteners because it does less damage to the hair and is a higher quality material. However, this hair straightener takes it a step further and has “tourmaline technology.” Tourmaline is a precious mineral that according to Irresistible Me, “is a potent natural source of ionic energy.” To put this in simpler terms, it essentially means that this straightener seals the cuticle of the hair, creating a much smoother, sleeker result. In fact, research shows that tourmaline generates up to six times more negative ions upon heating compared to your average ceramic iron. What this means is that you’re getting a much sleeker result with a tourmaline iron than a ceramic iron.
