HOW TO WEAR POM POMS WITHOUT LOOKING TACKY

Trends. Many say they are the last stage before tacky. That debate aside, you either love them or hate them. Sometimes you hate them and then you end up loving them! This is similar to what happened to me in regards to the “pom pom trend.” My first reaction was seriously…? I used these in kindergarten for counting and art projects. My second reaction was, fashion is supposed to be fun, so why not take a little risk?! I’m still a little on the fence, but there’s ways you can incorporate pom poms into your wardrobe without looking completely tacky or immature. I’m especially loving this top from Revolve Clothing that’s only $55, these sandals that are a designer dupe for only $49, this pom pom trimmed tank that’s only $17, and how amazing are these earrings?! I’ve come up with a few tips for working pom poms into your wardrobe without looking silly or tacky! Check out the bottom of this post for some of my favorite items with pom poms on them.

1. LESS IS MORE

There are certain things that can be worn from head to toe and you can feel confident that it looks amazing (example: black, white, nude, etc.) When working pom poms into your wardrobe, pick one or two items and leave it at that. For example, if you’re wearing a super cute beach cover up with pom pom detailing, leave the pom pom sandals, clutch, and earrings for another time. There really is such a thing as overkill.

2. BEACH IS BEST

When wearing this trend, items geared towards the beach or a casual setting are best. Depending on your career, I don’t recommend wearing pom pom pieces to work unless you want your coworkers to scratch their heads. That being said, we all have different careers and different expectations for what’s appropriate for work.

3. START SMALL

If this entire trend scares you, or you typically play it safe with fashion, start small with an accessory!
